Of all the winter hazards we encounter as road warriors, ice is the worst. Today was the iciest run I’ve ever attempted and after hearing lots of similar stories from other friends, today was just a shitty day to be an outside runner here.
My running partner and I planned to do 15, but quickly adjusted our plan as it took us about 9 minutes to survive the first mile. Flats were…okay. Downhills were terrifying, and we were forced to run with one foot in the bushes to stay upright. On uphills, we had a couple of times where we nearly needed to push one another up the hill. After 12 miles in 2 hours, we called it good and headed home.
I’m hoping it warms up or snows to cover the glazed sidewalks or it’s going to be a lonnnnng week of running.
